In 1903 Horatio Nelson Jackson and Sewall K. Crocker became the first people to cross the United States in an automobile. At the time there were only 150 miles of paved roads in the entire country, all of them within city limits.

Now, after more than a century of construction, things have changed a lot. This map from Io9 shows all of the roads in the USA. If you want to be alone, the choices are few.
