The Great State of Alaska

When it comes to U.S. mapping, Alaska and Hawaii are often left out. It's not because we don't like them. They are both beautiful states and have contributed a lot to our culture and history. No, it is because they are hard to fit in with the lower 48 without including a lot of Canada and the Pacific ocean.
In an effort to compensate for this omission, we will occasionally focus on the great states of Alaska and Hawaii. To begin with, from NationalAtlas.gov, here is a geologic map of Alaska showing all of its volcanoes. You may notice that the vast majority are located in the Aleutian Islands. In fact, they are the Aleutian Islands. And these volcanoes are active. Most of them have erupted within the last hundred years, some of them in the last decade.
